Setting The shadow, mid tone, and highlight of the Image in Adobe Photo Shop

In this tutorial we learn that how we set the Highlights Shadows and Neutral Areas in the image.


Set the Shadow and high light in Your Image
Open the image.

Open the levels dialog box by clicking on Image menu and then Adjustment and then and Levels.

Now set The RGB value of each Black and White and Gray color. For this purpose double click on the black Eyedropper Tool in Levels dialog box. Now in appearing dialog box set the RGB value of black color which is 777 (R=7 , G=7, B=7).

Click on Ok button.

After this double click on White Eyedropper Tool in Levels dialog box and set the value of White color in your image from appearing dialog box which is 245 for all R and G and B. In the same way double click on gray Eyedropper Tool which is place middle of these three Eyedropper Tools and set the value of R and G and B as 133.

In Next step set the black, white and gray point in you image. For this purpose click on Black Eyedropper Tool in Levels.

In the level dialog box, Right below the curves graph there are three sliders that will show the actually black and white and gray aria of your image.

First we Find the darkest (Black) area in our image.

Select that same black eyedropper by clicking once on it. Click and hold the alt key and start dragging the black slider to the right. The first black areas that appear on the screen are the darkest areas in your photo. remember this point in you image.

Now Click again on black Eyedropper and click on that black aria in you image which is appears first in previous step.

Next we fix the highlights (white aria) in our image.

Select the white eyedropper by clicking once on it. Click and hold the alt key and start dragging the white slider to the left.

The first white area that appear on the screen are the brightest areas in your photo. Now release the slider on its previous position and Click once over on white eyedropper and then click on white aria which is appears first in your image. Now you can see that you image is neutral white and black color, with no cast. you can found every black and white aria of your image. in Our example below you can see the sky color water color which are now correct.

Set The Gray Aria Of your Image

Now Set the gray aria of your image from this purpose Create a new empty layer.

Click on Edit menu and select Fill and Then select the “50% gray” option from the Use list menu, under the Contents area.

Now Change its blending mode to difference from Layer Panel.


Now create a Threshold adjustment layer on top of your neutral gray layer. From Layer menu>New Adjustment Layer and then select threshold.

Now First drag the threshold slider all the way to the left. You end up with a blank white screen.

Now Slowly start dragging the threshold slider to the right, until you start seeing black areas on your image. Those blacks areas that start appearing first is your neutral gray colored in the photo.
To mark a neutral gray area, Select The color sampler tool which is right under the eyedropper tool from tool bar.

Now click once over that black spot to mark your selection. Once that done, then delete the solid 50% grey layer and the threshold layer above it. in the end you can see a mark of color sampler as shown in image below:

 Now open the Level layer again. from Image>Adjustment > level

Click on Set Gray point Eyedropper Tool.

Now click on the spot which is you park in previous step and click on ok button.

Now The shadow, highlights and gray aria in you image is Fix finally you got the image below:
